An Intentional Epiphany: Shoes & Beautiful Feet

We’ve reached the final part of this 6 part series for An Intentional Epiphany.

Whether you decided to do something every other day starting December 25th, participated January 1-6 or just picked and chose what activities you could fit into your already busy schedule, I hope it has enriched the beginning of your New Year and kept your mind focused on Christ’s coming to Earth.

beautiful epiphany

Read IT: Matthew 2:9-11:
After they had heard the king, [the wise men] went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.

Teach IT:

  • We commemorate the Wise Men’s arrival to see Baby Jesus on Epiphany.
  • They arrived after a long journey and were “overjoyed” as they “bowed down” and “worshiped Him.”
  • While the physical journey to Bethlehem ended at this point, the life-long journey to seek Christ has just begun.

Show IT:

What you will need: A pair of shoes for each member of the family

  • Place a pair of everyone’s shoes at the front door.
  • Read Romans 10:15b together as a family:
“How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!”
  • Just as the wise men had a journey to visit Baby Jesus, we have a journey to seek Christ as well.
  • Our shoes and feet represent this journey, and after we have sought and believed in Christ we are called to go out and invite others on the same journey.
  • Take a picture of your family’s shoes lined up…maybe a picture of your bare feet….or slippered feet — whatever is a strong reminder that we are called to go spread the Good News of Christ to those far and near. Print out the picture and place it in a prominent space to remind everyone to:

GO & MAKE disciples of all the Nations with their beautiful feet….it’s a journey worth making.
