My kids l-o-v-e pickles. They have from the beginning, and I can’t say that I didn’t influence that as I love them myself! I was looking for something different and fun for a snack and I ran across this recipe for fried pickles on the Taste of Home website. So I thought I would give the fried pickles a try…seems like a good Southern food to me.
Ingredients for Fried Pickles:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon of dill
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 jar of pickles (thick hamburger slices)
- Oil for deep-fat frying
- Ranch salad dressing, optional
Directions
1- In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, salt, pepper, and dill.
2- In another bowl, beat eggs and milk.
3- Dry the pickles with paper towels to remove moisture.
4- Coat pickles with flour mixture by dropping them in and flipping them around, then dip in egg mixture, then coat again with flour mixture.
5- In a deep-fat fryer, heat oil to 375°. Fry pickles, about 10 at a time, for 3 minutes or until golden brown, turning once. If you don’t have a fryer, try using a pan with an inch or so of oil (enough to allow you to flip the pickles to cook them through).
6- Drain on paper towels.
7- Serve your freshly fried pickles warm with ranch dressing.
This took about 20 minutes to make, and was more than enough pickles. I also had quite a bit of flower mixture left over, which you’ll just have to throw away since it has raw eggs in it!
My kids loved the fried pickles, and so did I! It makes a great appetizer for a meal or just a fun snack.
