Our Little Gymnast Shiloh – The reason for the C-Section

Apparently our daughter, Shiloh, likes sports. A couple weeks ago, she decided to flip from being ready for a normal birth to being breech and needing a Cesarean Section. This was a big surprise to us as we had been planning a normal delivery due to Shiloh being “head-down” or normal position during the last 5 weeks of the pregnancy. But for some reason during the last two weeks she flipped.

We were surprised but not upset. After all, this took the guessing out of the equation. We weren’t wondering when she’d go into labor or when we’d have our baby girl. We were told, “please report to the hospital at 5:30am on April 8th, 2010.” It felt so structured, so controlled, so real.

But Lindsey didn’t have to worry. She didn’t have to labor. She did have to endure some brutal needles in her spine before the C Section. She did have to get cut open. She did miss the actual delivery since her head was behind a curtain with Brad.

At this point, we are both just glad the waiting game is over. We are glad Shiloh is here with us. We’re glad to get to hold her close at night. We pinch her cheeks. Brad has to fight to get any time with her. Lindsey is a rock star nursing mom. There’s just about nothing better than having Shiloh swaddled and cuddled close to your chest.

Maybe one day she’ll be a gymnast. Maybe not. Regardless, we are taking lots of pictures and soaking up the joy of being parents.
